We are super excited to announce this years Christmas Appeal.

Each Christmas we like to support some of our local animal charities and this year is no exception.

As you can imagine, due to coronavirus many small animal charities have greatly suffered with very little chance for fundraising. This year we invite you to put a shoebox of goodies together for a cat or dog. Once assembled, this box can be delivered to your local AVG branch – Pulborough, Westergate, Ashington, Storrington or Worthing.

Ideas for cats
☆ Dreamies or similar
☆ cat nip toy or similar
☆ Sachets or tin of food
☆ Small fleece blanket for snuggling (at the time of posting, these can be bought on sites such as Amazon for as little as £2.50 – £4.00 Alternatively do try the smaller independent retailers. We are very passionate about the more independent, local businesses.)

Ideas for dogs
☆ Tin of food
☆ Ball or soft toy
☆ Treats or a chew
☆ Small fleece blanket for snuggling

Please wrap your box and mark clearly on the top if it’s for a cat or dog. We can continue to accept your donations right up until 23rd December 2020.

The two charities or organisations we have chosen this year are both very close to our hearts. For the cats we will be supporting our dear friends at Cats Protection Horsham & District Branch We are continually grateful to this charity for their support and expertise shown to the team, often stepping in when we have an abandoned or stray, injured cat. For the dogs we have chosen Greyhound Protection UK. This charity have recently opened a branch here in West Sussex. They are a non profit organisation dedicated to the rescue and rehoming of greyhounds in need. Most of these dogs are discarded from the racing industry, however more recently the charity have become involved in preventing many of these dogs from finding their way to the meat trade in countries such as China.

A bit of information about greyhounds..
• Greyhounds make fabulous pets
• Exercise wise, greyhounds are sprint animals so a good twenty minute walk twice a day is sufficient
• Greyhounds love nothing more than a cosy bed and human company. Hiding under a duvet is a favourite pastime
• AVG Practice Manager Liz has a weakness for sight hounds such as greyhounds. Apparently she loves them even more than us! Hard to believe…

As well as the shoeboxes, we are also happy to receive larger quantities of dog and cat food for these two charities.
