Those of you who know AVG owners Matt and Sarah well, will know that The Gittings family are rather partial to a Border Terrier – or 4!
It will therefore come as no surprise that Matt has built up quite a friendship with this handsome lad.
Meet Barney the 12 year old Border Terrier.
Poor Barney has recently been through a bit of a rough time involving one of his toes. Back in March and literally just before lockdown, Barney came for his booster vaccination and health check and a little lump was noticed on his foot.
Not particularly liking the look of this lump, it was advised that lockdown or not, a biopsy was needed. It was quickly diagnosed that unfortunately the little wart type lump on Barney’s toe was actually a malignant tumour.
A few weeks ago, Barney came in to our Storrington hospital where surgical certificate holder and advanced practitioner Matt amputated his toe.
We are pleased to report that Barney has healed up beautifully and thanks to swift treatment and excellent surgical margins, Barney’s melanoma is unlikely to return.
Barney will of course need close monitoring from both Matt and his Mum over the coming weeks and months but we all have our fingers tightly crossed that Barney can get back to being an inquisitive terrier!
