This very handsome boy is Dash.
Dash is an 8 year old Flat-coat Retriever and until very recently had been in excellent health.
A couple of weeks ago Dash suddenly became unwell. His owner telephoned us at our Westergate branch which is usually the clinic Dash would attend. After describing his symptoms over the phone to our experienced receptionist Rachel, it was very quickly decided that Dash should go straight over to our 24 hour hospital at Storrington where not only would our hospital team be ready and waiting, but additionally our 24 hospitalisation facilities would be available for Dash – if needed. Our RCVS Accredited hospital is fully equipped with the most modern, state of art facilities, including high dependency care alongside our stand-alone dedicated night team for patients requiring overnight care. Our clinical teams are made of committed veterinary surgeons and nurses, many of whom have advanced certified training and decades of combined experience.
Within just a few hours it was quickly diagnosed that Dash was in a critical condition and needed an emergency splenectomy (removal of the spleen). This was performed within 24 hours of his owner calling and after several days of high dependency care we were delighted to be able to discharge Dash back home to his Mum.
Dash’s recovery has not been plain sailing but we are pleased to report that Dash is continuing to recover well at home. He will of course need very careful monitoring over the coming weeks and months for any complications arising, but for now we wish him well and keep our fingers crossed that he continues to enjoy his walks with his Mum.
